Makeover Essentials Review

Makeover Essentials has been around for a few years now (gained a touch of popularity in 2013-2014), but for me personally this is a "new brand" that I got as a gift and am testing out for the first time. So if you have not heard of this brand Makeover Essentials, don't feel too out of the loop. They seem to be trying to recruit by traveling across the US and Europe selling their products. Soon after receiving this brand I thought I would do a little more research into it. From what I can see this makeup brand has received a lot of mixed reviews from various bloggers and makeup shoppers, with people who believe they had been scammed when approached on the streets by sales representatives. I have to be honest, when I first looked at the packaging and the quality of the makeup, I wasn't expecting much as it sort of looked like your general cheap makeup brand that you find at the back of drugstore or something.

When looking at the brands official website, I definitely think that they are way over their heads with the prices and are way too expensive for the quality of the makeup. I was shocked by the prices, they are out of their minds if they believe people will actually pay that much for this makeup. The prices are comparable to Urban Decay, Tarte, and Benefit Cosmetics. I don't know why everything is so expensive for a brand that isn't well known at all and the quality is subpar.

As you can see I got a few different items form their collection. Here are my thoughts on them....

"Beauty on the go kit"

Product:

Kit Contents:

One blush

One Bronzer

6 lip glosses

One pressed powder

Twelve eye shadows

Two applicators + One "face puff"

NOTE: No animal testing!

Personally for me I didn't care for the blush or the lip glosses in this kit. The "bronzer" is fine for what it is, it is not highly pigmented but it gives a soft contour for a more natural look. The shadows were nice over all. If I had to compare them, I would say they are just below "Wetnwild" shadow quality. The Blush was chalky/streaky. The lip glosses had no real pigmentation to them and didn't last more then 20 mins on the lips. One or two shadows impressed me a little with how pigmented they were and how buttery smooth they went on.

PRICE TAG 💰

Since this was a gift, I don't have a price for this and I wasn't able to find this online to get a price point.

Packaging: The packaging is cheap and simple. Opens like a book with the shadows on one side and the lip glosses and blush/bronzer on the other side. The palette itself is very small (fits in my palm) and made from an odd cloth/leather wannabe material.

Net weight:

Eye shadow-0.351oz/9.96g

Press powder-0.176oz/5g

Blush-0.254oz/7.2g

Lip glosses-0.117oz/3.3g

Makeover Essentials Face Color Kit

Kit Contents:

Two blushes

Two beeswax lip glosses

Nine eye shadows

Three applicators

The websites description of this product: A range of colors can create neutral or bold looks. Perfect for days at the office and nights out

Note:No animal testing!

Again I didn't care for the blushes or the lip glosses. The shadows were nice. This was better then the first kit I tested out. I really like the last three swatches on my arm (picture above). Fun colors and easy to work with and highly pigmented.

Will I run out and rebut this...NO.

Packaging: The packaging is sleek and simple. The palette itself is very slim and made from a light weight plastic with a huge mirror on the inside.

Silky Smooth Eyeshadow Palette
Product:
Kit Contents:

Six silky eyeshadows

Matte finish

Compact case with mirror

Two dual-tipped applicators included

0.21oz. each

According to the website it states, "These highly pigmented eyeshadows help you create makeup looks that range from natural to dramatic. The two included applicators apply and blend the soft matte shades smoothly around the eye. The eyeshadows and applicators both come tucked into a low-profile compact case—complete with a mirror—making this palette ideal for on-the-go use".

The shadows were nice nothing to write home about. Blend-able but I did find these to be a bit more chalky in texture then the last palette. Now, they say that this is a "matte" palette but I do see a few specks of shimmer or sparkle. Example, would be the second swatch on my arm. I would say this is the most glitter infused one in the palette. The blue swatch looks shimmery in the pan but once on the skin it's not at all. A few others give off that impression as well.

IntrigueMe eyeshadow compact

Product:

Kit Contents:

12 shimmer eye shadows

This was my favorite palette from this brand. The shadows were nice and buttery and have just the right amount of shimmer to them. These colors would be great for either holiday season for a touch of sparkle or in the summer months for a playful touch and a nice glow.

I would recommend this palette out of them all to people. This small palette really surprised me with how pigmented it was and the quality of the shadows themselves were great. I ❤️ finding a "diamond in the rough" when it comes to unknown makeup brands! I love that this came my way.

In the sunlight

Overall, I sadly wouldn't recommend this line to anyone as there were more cons than pros.

The products reminded me so much of my childhood days when I would get a little Barbie makeup set from Claire's or Toys R Us. Perhaps if the pricing was a little lower, then they would be lovely little gifts to give to a little girl as they personally didn't have any bad effects on my skin or cause me to break out, but there are much better sets out there with better quality for a much lower price.

I want to add that I also received a primer. Which I was pleasantly surprised with. It is a silicone based primed which leaves you skin with a matte finish. I found that it glides on like a dream, no heavy scent to it and it really helps my makeup last longer but also makes it look smoother. It is on sale on the official website for $20.99 ( too pricey).

Let me know if any of you guys have tried/tested this brand out before? Let me know, what you think if you have....

Till next time Lovers!
